Workshop "Ana Mendieta: Body, Earth, and Identity" - Saturday 26th September 2026 at 10am
In anticipation of the major Tate Modern exhibition dedicated to Ana Mendieta, join us for a powerful, interactive workshop on one of the 20th century’s most important artists. Mendieta's trailblazing work uses the natural world to explore the most profound questions of displacement and identity.
She is best known for her iconic Silueta Series, ephemeral pieces that traced the outline of the female body in natural environments using materials like earth, fire, and water. In this classroom-based workshop, we will immerse ourselves in Mendieta’s vision. Through hands-on activities, we will explore her relationship with nature, discuss the presence and absence of the human form in her work, and gain a deeper understanding of her legacy as a Cuban-American artist. This will provide the essential context to appreciate her groundbreaking practice before your personal visit.
This 2-hour workshop in Spanish will be held in our classrooms in Clapham (4 Scout Lane, SW4 0LA), a short walk from Clapham Common tube station. The session will be led by an art historian and qualified Spanish language teacher. The level is tailored for students with at least an A2 level of Spanish (equivalent to our Continuacion courses).
