Portraiture is the most intimate of painting genres. As intersections between biography and history, portraits commemorate and tell us truths about humanity and identity. They are windows for us to encounter the people depicted.

As part of our "Take a Closer Look" series, in this session we will learn how to read a portrait. We will discuss the intentions behind some selected paintings, and what makes them innovative. Using discussion-based exercises, we will increase our vocabulary to describe moods and expressions, and will gain confidence talking about character and personality.

This session will take place in London's National Gallery (Trafalgar Sq, WC2N 5DN) on Saturday 25th May at 11am.

This is a welcoming, fun, and friendly discussion-based tour in which you will put your Spanish into gear.

In a combination between an art history- and a Spanish language class, you will not only learn about art, but you will also be encouraged to be critical and express your own opinions.

Absolutely no knowledge of art is required, just an inquisitive mind and an interest to learn and exchange views.

The session will be run by art historian and native Spanish language teacher at Spanish House London.

The ideal level of Spanish to attend the tour is A2 and above (equivalent to Spanish House London Continuacion courses). You will be provided with a vocabulary list in advance, so that you can familiarise yourself with the words we will use in the tour.
