In anticipation of the major National Gallery exhibition dedicated to Francisco de Zurbarán, join us for an immersive, interactive workshop exploring the intense beauty and dramatic realism of Spain's Golden Age.

Zurbarán, a true master of light and shadow, is famous for his incredible ability to capture the weight, fold, and colour of cloth and costume, giving a profound, quiet dignity to his figures.

In this classroom-based session, you will not just learn about the artist—you will immerse yourself in his silent, powerful world. Through fun and engaging activities, we will discover the stories behind his serene saints and vivid still lifes.

We will discuss the exhibition's key themes: dramatic lighting (Chiaroscuro), the power of religious symbolism, and the unique cultural context of 17th-century Spain. This is the perfect way to prepare for your visit, ensuring you appreciate the intense, tangible realism of this extraordinary show.

This 2-hour workshop in Spanish will be held in our classrooms in Clapham (4 Scout Lane, SW4 0LA), a short walk from Clapham Common tube station. The session will be led by an art historian and qualified Spanish language teacher. The level is tailored for students with at least an A2 level of Spanish (equivalent to our Continuacion courses).

After the workshop, you can optionally join the workshop leader and fellow attendees to visit the exhibition. We will travel together to the Tate Modern by tube. If you wish to visit the exhibition with the group, please book your own ticket in advance and choose the entry time 1pm on Saturday 30th May 2026.
